CUE the fun!
Memorial Day makes it official: Summer is here! The Hampton Rhoads area has a lot of popular attractions that are now open so plan a day trip now. If you don’t have the money for a week-long vacation, there are a lot of options nearby. Think Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, Go Ape, The Botanical Gardens and Virginia Beach. We have some ideas on how you can put together a summer that is fun, exciting and inexpensive. Here’s a start:
• Bring back the picnic basket. If you don’t have one, then this is a must-buy item for the season. You can stock it with pretty paper plates/napkins/cutlery. If you want to have an upscale basket, then check out all of the Melamine tableware options. A picnic basket can make even a backyard summer seem chic and inviting. With all of the beautiful state parks (not to mention the beach), your basket is guaranteed to get a work-out. They can be purchased at big box stores and small specialty centers. Don’t delay.
• Make a day-tip list, including dates. Send out a missive to family/friends and neighbors about upcoming events. Maybe other folks would like to be part of the summer excitement? Tell everyone to fill their picnic basket with something different. For example, one basket could have appetizers and another could hold desserts. The possibilities are endless.
• Celebrate the 4th! Fireworks are an American tradition and there are a lot of local opportunities for viewing them in style. Check local listings in your newspaper and on the web.
